About

Newick Pre-School is very much a part of the village and welcomes children aged 2-5 years.

At Newick Pre-School the children can learn through play and make friends before starting school. We follow a curriculum to cover all learning areas whilst providing a safe and caring environment. We have been rated OFSTED OUTSTANDING in November 2011, October 2015 and recently in November 2019.

The Pre-School is term time only for children aged 2 years and over, open Monday to Friday. Our session times are, Morning session – 9am – 12.30pm, Afternoon session – 12.30pm – 3pm or all day – 9am – 3pm. We accept universal and extended (30hr) funding. We also accept 2 year old funding.

With spaces still available this is the perfect place for children to make friends and enjoy learning through play! To arrange a visit please contact the manager, Katy at newickpreschool@hotmail.co.uk or on 07788 603633.

What we do – We are a charity and committee run pre-school at the heart of the village. The children have opportunities to take part in different activities each session.

At Newick Pre-School we love to take the children on special visits and outings. We believe it is an important part of their pre-school education and what is more it’s great fun! We have visits to Jan’s farm, where the children get to see the animals and watch how the environment changes over the seasons. We visit community events/occasions including the Circus on Newick Village Green. We also have end of term family trips as a celebration at the end of the school year.

The children get involved with community events including the Newick Christmas Tree Festival and the Bonfire Guy Competition.

Newick Pre-School is located opposite the entrance to Newick’s King George V’s Recreational Ground, a huge open space for the children where they can run and play games. There is a fully equipped playground with soft flooring, perfect for the children. We visit the park regularly rain or shine, it is great to get the children out for some fresh air!

We also have close links with the local village school and work closely with them throughout the year which supports children’s transition to big school.

At Newick Pre-School we implement In The Moment Planning throughout our setting.

In the moment planning is a very simple idea – observing and interacting with children as they pursue their own interests and also assessing and moving the learning on in that moment.

In the moment planning allows child led exploration and inspirations to drive learning and development, within an environment that is enriched and enabling and where practitioners are skilled in communicating to enrich children’s experiences.

How will ‘In the moment planning’ benefit my child?

In the moment planning encourages;

· Excitement through self-driven learning opportunities

· Problem solving and questioning

· Curiosity and wonder, as the child explores in their own unique way

· Individuality and confidence, as the child leads their own learning

· Positive attitudes, a growth of knowledge and development skills

Recent news – Newick Pre-School had their OFSTED inspection in November 2019 and the inspection found ‘high calibre staff used their expert knowledge to plan an extensive range of challenging activities. Teaching was outstanding and the curriculum was rich and exciting, enhanced by many visits into the local community’.

The OFSTED report states that: “Every child’s needs are planned for meticulously. Children’s individual characters, personalities and learning styles are fully understood and respected by staff. The relationships between staff and children are exceptionally positive. Children’s safety is given the highest priority. Staff are extremely vigilant and help children understand about possible dangers, especially during visits within the local community.”
